WHEN PUPPETS ATTACK!!

P.M.A.C. Puppet show prop from When Zombies Attack!!

Burbank, CA. (2004) -- You just can't keep a good zombie franchise down. Sota Toys and Grimm Grotto Goods are releasing a line of eerie puppets, as seen in the outrageous short film, Waker Safety, from Chad Waters and Matt Rose, the same geniuses who brought us P.M.A.C.: When Zombies Attack!!. Officer Frank Hadley utilizes these monstrous creations to teach young children how to avoid the horrors of a zombie ("waker") attack. Although only four zombie puppets were used in Waker Safety, other puppets have been created to "flesh" out the line, including a witch and an evil pumpkin head. The 10-inch mechanized hand puppets are being released as a series of six under the banner When Puppets Attack!!.

What began as an improvisational aside about using puppets to educate people to the dangers posed by "wakers"--by Frank Rydberg as Officer Frank, in the original short film P.M.A.C.: When Zombies Attack!!--led to the creation of another short in the series, entitled Waker Safety. Told in the scratchy style of old reel-to-reel educational films, Waker Safety features the zombie puppets prominently, in a cautionary tale of young Tommy Tendertreat, who foolishly takes a shortcut through a graveyard on his way home from school one night. The results are disastrous for young Tommy, but the children get the message, and from a tongue-in-cheek "beginner responsibility" film, a new franchise had been unexpectedly unearthed.

P.M.A.C.: When Zombies Attack!! is an outrageous, award-winning independent short, created by special effects wizards Matt Rose and Chad Waters as a brilliant spoof of reality television. The film follows a paranormal clean-up crew--the bureau of Post Mortem Animation Control (P.M.A.C.), headed by Officer Frank Hadely (Frank Rydberg)--as they chase down and dispose of the corporally-challenged. Running 25 minutes, this unstoppable zombie franchise has been chewing through and firing up the imaginations of some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry.

ABOUT GRIMM GROTTO GOODS: Creative partners at Rick Baker's Cinovation Studios, Matt Rose and Chad Waters worked together on such memorable characters as: the mummified remains of Mother Bates in Gus Van Sant's remake of Psycho, the guilty space alien, Mikey, in Men In Black, the loveable giant gorilla, Joe, in Mighty Joe Young and the big red title character in Hellboy. Their need to produce their own work led to the creation of the memorable characters and unforgettable stories behind the P.M.A.C. Putting their years of combined experience to work through the formation of Grimm Grotto Goods, not only did the duo create the make-up, effects, props and costumes for this pilot episode, they also wrote, produced and directed the project.
